ActivitiesTo carry out its mandate, the Guidance Council encourages professional development of practicing counsellors, and promotes the liaison of counsellors with other professionals in the helping professions. Much of the work of the Council is done at the regional level and consists of conferences, meetings and liaison with outside agencies. The Council holds an annual conference that serves to bring together widely known speakers and practitioners and that affords the opportunity for vital networking. In addition, to promote the profession and to honor those who excel, the Council grants the Murray Jampolsky award annually to an outstanding practicing school counsellor in the province. PublicationsThe Alberta Counsellor is the official journal of the Guidance Council. Articles pertain to current research in counselling and related professions. The Alberta Counselletter is a newsletter containing information about council activities, reports of regional meetings and announcements of and reports on professional development opportunities. LogoThe three C’s of the Guidance Council logo represent counselling, coordinating and consulting. The configuration of the three arrow shapes suggests an integrated system and represents interaction and communication either on a one-to-one basis or in a group. Doug Harington designed the logo in 1973. |
